Power Electronics and Electrical Machine Design has recently becoming major disciplines in major universities worldwide having research groups and research centers active in specialized areas. Power Electronics being both interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary, play a key role in using modern technologies to produce ‘competitive edge’ energy efficient environmentally compliant products.
The inter-disciplinary aspect of this Cluster’s research areas is based on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, however the multi-disciplinary facet involves many other disciplines and the Cluster welcomes participation and partnerships with other Research Clusters in UniMAP, other Malaysian universities and industry as well.
The main objectives of this Cluster are to identify problems related to electrical machines and power electronics and provide innovative solutions to design and improve electrical machines such as transformers, motors and generators and to design and improve power electronics equipment such as variable speed drives, power supplies, inverters and others, to be more reliable, robust and energy efficient.
