Introduction

Sustainability occurs when we maintain or improve the material and social conditions for human health and the environment. It would be a challenge for scientists and engineers in designing processes and products to achieve sustainability.

Therefore, the sustainable engineering cluster is established in order to focus research activities on materials recycling. The School of Materials Engineering has developed strong expertise and facilities in seven research sub-clusters: metallurgy, construction materials, ceramic, polymer, plant and process design, electronic materials and materials chemistry.

Objectives

The objective of this research cluster is to develop processing technique or useful
materials from a sustainability perspective including economic (eg-energy consumption), value added, environmental and social aspect.

Roadmap & Direction

Future activies planned for this research cluster includes :

  • To develop tools, methodologies and technologies in the development of sustainable materials.
  • To develop sustainable processing of materials based on low and high temperature including recycling activities.
  • To identify opportunities and barriers for knowledge transfer relating to sustainability.
  • To develop Industry-University interaction in the innovation of new tools, methodologies and technologies
